SEOUL, Nov. 13, 2025: South Korea recorded a double-digit increase in information and communication technology exports in October, supported by higher global demand for advanced semiconductor components used in artificial intelligence systems. Government data showed that shipments of ICT goods rose 12.2 percent from a year earlier to reach US$23.3 billion, marking the strongest performance ever recorded for the month of October. The results reflect continued stabilization in global technology markets and steady momentum in high-end chip sales following a period of fluctuating demand earlier in the year.

Korea ICT exports rise on strong semiconductor demand

Rising chip demand continues to support Korea’s expanding ICT export activity in key sectors.

The Ministry of Science and ICT reported that the expansion in exports was primarily driven by semiconductors, which remain the country’s most significant technology export category. Officials said outbound semiconductor shipments increased 25.4 percent on-year, supported by stronger pricing in the global memory market and heightened demand from companies scaling AI-related infrastructure. Industry data indicated that the rise included higher volumes of memory chips and application-specific components tailored for advanced server operations. Total ICT imports declined 2.9 percent from a year earlier to US$12.9 billion in October.

The decrease contributed to an ICT trade surplus of US$10.3 billion for the month, reaffirming South Korea’s position as a major net exporter of high-value digital hardware. The trade balance improvement also came as domestic manufacturers adjusted procurement volumes to reflect shorter component lead times and more stable supply conditions across key production lines. Government analysts noted that October’s performance aligned closely with export trends observed throughout the second half of 2025. Steady investment in cloud computing, data-center expansion, and enterprise-level AI deployments has supported stronger demand for the types of high-performance chips South Korean manufacturers supply.

Semiconductor demand drives export momentum

The ministry’s data showed that semiconductor exports accounted for the largest share of total ICT outbound shipments, followed by displays, mobile devices, and computers. The broader technology sector has shown resilience despite macroeconomic uncertainties affecting several global markets. Improved inventory levels, normalization of logistics channels, and continued international demand for AI-capable hardware have mitigated pressures that affected export performance earlier in the year. Market data from industry associations indicated that memory chip prices stabilized across major categories during the third quarter, contributing to improved export values in October.

South Korea’s ICT sector remains central to the country’s overall export portfolio, with semiconductors representing one of its most globally competitive industries. The Ministry of Science and ICT stated that maintaining reliable supply capacity for advanced chips remains a priority across domestic production facilities. October’s figures underscored the industry’s importance to national export performance as demand for devices supporting data processing, cloud operations, and AI-based services continues to expand. The ministry said it will continue to assess production trends, external demand patterns, and sector-wide performance as global technology markets evolve.

ICT trade balance strengthens on higher chip sales

October’s results, which showed the strongest ICT export value for the month on record, reflected stable output levels at major South Korean chipmakers and ongoing demand from international buyers upgrading computing infrastructure. Officials highlighted that the data will contribute to ongoing assessments of sector productivity heading into the final months of the year. The latest figures reinforce South Korea’s position as a key supplier of advanced ICT products across global markets. With October marking a significant expansion in both semiconductor exports and overall ICT trade strength, the country’s technology sector continues to demonstrate sustained competitiveness under improving global economic conditions. – By Content Syndication Services.
